Quel pilote graphique utiliser ? (kernel panic sur Debian Stretch)

Bonjour amis du libre !

Il y a quelques mois, j'avais ouvert un topic sur un problème de plantage récurrent sur ma Debian Jessie (kernel panic).
Le problème avait été résolu et tout fonctionnait bien.

Par la suite, je suis passé à Stretch, et le problème est revenu. J'avais alors reproduit les manipulations du forum en espérant que cela résoudrait le problème, sauf qu'à l'époque j'avais uniquement endommagé le système et ma debian ne démarrait même plus (je restait bloqué dans le chargement des modules).

J'ai refais une installation fraîche du coup, et je n'ose plus toucher à rien sans consulter vos avis car je ne sais pas quel pilote installer, je suis un peu largué (nvidia, désactiver nouveau ... sos.gif)

Par où devrais-je commencer ?

Bonjour mcfly,

Installer des paquets rétroportés pour Jessie sur Stretch n'était sans doute pas idéal... mais que retourne la commande :

lspci -nnk | egrep -A3 'VGA|3D'


Les freezes dont tu parles pourraient être dus au fait que le contrôleur graphique intégré (Intel HD Graphics 5600) au processeur (Intel Core i7-5700HQ) ne parvient plus à écluser le flux graphique/vidéo, or le contrôleur graphique dédié (NVIDIA GeForce 940M) ne peut pas prendre le relais si Bumblebee n'est pas installé.

Tu as sans doute déjà installé le paquet firmware-iwlwifi, mais je ne suis pas certain que le paquet firmware-misc-nonfree soit indispensable, en fait (CPU Broadwell, NVIDIA GM108) ; attends le verdict de anonyme neutral

En effet j'ai déjà installé le paquet firmware-wilwifi.

Selon cateee.net le contrôleur graphique HD Graphics 5600 (Broadwell) est pris en charge depuis la version 3.13 du noyau, ce n'était donc probablement pas ça le problème. Par ailleurs l'utilisation du pilote intel est déconseillée depuis longtemps.
Selon freedesktop.org le contrôleur graphique GeForce 940M (Maxwell) est pris en charge par nouveau mais je ne sais pas depuis quelle version. Quant à Bumblebee, sous Jessie, quel paquet avais-tu installé, bumblebee, ou bumblebee-nvidia ?

Pourrais-tu confirmer que le bureau est Xfce, le gestionnaire de connexion LightDM, et poster les retours de :

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

apt-cache policy libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx xserver-xorg-video-intel

dmesg | grep firmware


Enfin il pourrait être intéressant d'avoir une capture photo d'écran lisible illustrant le kernel panic.

Rebonjour èfpé,

Pour la photo d'écran, sur Jessie c'était net j'avais vraiment l'écran avec le message, pour stretch le plus souvent c'est un freeze complet et tout redémarre tout seul au bout de 30 secondes.
Je te confirme que j'ai XFCE, pour le gestionnaire de connexion c'est également LightDM.

Edit : Je ne me rappelle plus quel paquet bumblebee j'avais installé, mais je t'avoue que c'est en essayant d'installer l'un des deux la dernière fois que j'ai complètement cassé mon démarrage et que j'ai dû tout réinstaller.

Par ailleurs, il semble bien que la définition d'écran est nominale (1366x768) :

Bref le contrôleur graphique intégré (Intel HD Graphics 5600) est correctement pris en charge, et je ne vois d'ailleurs aucun argument pour te faire installer le paquet firmware-misc-nonfree (ceci dit rien ne t'empêche de l'installer, au pire cette manip aura simplement été inutile) :

apt-get install firmware-misc-nonfree


Le contrôleur graphique dédié (NVIDIA GeForce 940M) ne pourra pas prendre le relais du précédent (GPU primaire → GPU secondaire) tant que Bumblebee ne sera pas installé. C'est quand même un petit peu ballot de ne pas te souvenir de ce qui avait réglé le problème sous Jessie... Le changelog de nouveau n'est pas des plus explicites, mais il semble que la prise en charge des GPU de la famille NV110 (Maxwell) n'est pas complète, en version 1.0.13 (Stretch) ; j'imagine naïvement que tu avais installé Bumblebee via le paquet bumblebee-nvidia, comme anonyme te l'avait suggéré. Note que tu peux commencer par une simulation :

apt-get -s install bumblebee-nvidia


Tu ne casseras rien et on verra s'il y a des trucs... des machins... tout ça smile

Salut èfpé,

D'abord merci pour tes conseils, je vais les suivre à la lettre mais avant je dois t'avouer qu'il m'est arrivé une bien vilaine tuile avec ma debian ce matin.
Je comptais justement installer bumblebee, j'étais au téléphone et je consultais mes mails en même temps, puis j'ai eu la superbe idée de faire une petite mise à jour comme à mon habitude une fois par semaine (le bon vieux apt-get update et apt-get upgrade en root).

Sauf que cette fois-ci, Debian a décidé de faire ce fameux freeze en pleine mise à jour.
L'ordinateur a naturellement redémarré au bout de 30 secondes, et cette fois-ci je n'ai plus accès à lightDM.

En gros, l'ordinateur démarre, je vois un écran noir, il s'éclaircit, je vois juste le curseur de la souris apparaître puis disparaître, et ensuite l'ordinateur éteint l'écran et réessaie d'afficher l'interface, je revois à nouveau le pointeur de la souris, puis ça recommence ... comme si il démarrait en boucle.

Un peu désarmé par cette surprise, j'ai essayé un démarrage en mode "rescue" via Grub, et j'ai pris soin de faire une photo d'écran car l'ordinateur reste figé en me laissant quand même des informations :

tu est en mode dépannage , le système attend que tu entre ton mot de passe root
ou les touches CTRL + D  pour continuer le boot
tu dis en pleine mise a jour , de stretch ? , ou tu a essayé d installer quelque chose ?

c'est exact , sur stretch il y a encore des soucis par exemple sur une GTX750TI avec nouveau , qui est un gpu maxwell castré
ps: il semble que le noyau 4.12 apporte des améliorations pour nvidia avec nouveau. (testé sur buster et sid avec la gtx750ti )

je sais pas trop quoi te conseiller pour ce portable  roll

mettre le firmware-misc-nonfree (il améliore les choses pour les gpu intel et nvidia ) sans chercher a comprendre .
voir si un noyau plus récent dans les backports (4.12) peu peut etre améliorer les choses (sans garanti )
tester bumblebee (avec nouveau )  ou  bumblebee-nvidia.

nota : ta machine devrait etre stable avec lightdm sans bumblebee sur le gpu intel (juste tu n'a pas l'utilisation possible du gpu secondaire nvidia ) .

un bug aléatoire comme ça , c'est galère a détecter le problème hmm  (je pense que le gpu 940M pose problème avec le noyau 4.9 (que tu n'a pas avec le 3.16 )
si tu a gardé le 3.16 démarrer avec celui ci (je pense a un bug sur KMS )

ps: les drivers propriétaires nvidia ont des bugs aussi , j'en ai trouvé un sur la version de sid actuelle (qui n'est pas sur la version de buster )  roll

Bonsoir les amis,

J'ai tenté simplement de récupérer mes données de la partition sur laquelle j'avais mis mon "home" en utilisant un live CD et en faisant copier-coller sur un ddd externe.
La copie est corrompue, plusieurs fichiers non copiables car "permission denied" (la plupart sont des documents pdf et des fichiers libre office).

La cerise sur la gâteau a été le freeze de lubuntu (le même qu'avec Debian) pendant la copie, résultat disque dur externe également corrompu.

J'abandonne Linux pour ce modèle d'ordinateur, trop de problèmes liés au hardware ... ça me déprime ... sad
