que tu fais il me semble "Ctrl+Alt+F2" pour avoir la console pure puis log en user et enfin startx pour le bureau.
a priori ça bug a l'invite de connexion (graphique) mais ce n'est pas ( ou plus ) le driver graphique qui pose problème .
pour moi sous lightdm ça donne ceci ( a partir du bureau en root )

dans /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf , tu peu désactiver "Wayland" et activer le mode "debug"
ps: utilise "nano" (en root) pour le modifier a la place de "cat"
la première ligne et la dernière tu enlève le "#" devant la ligne
ça doit désactiver Wayland et forcer le serveur X , et rendre plus bavard le log de gdm3 ( je pense dans /var/log/syslog )
ceci ne devrait pluus se produire (wayland est désactivé)
et pour ceci , la première ligne a priori un "warning" pas une erreur (j'ai la même )
la seconde ligne tu vois que pam_unix a réussi la connexion de "user" (sûrement lors de la connexion de user en console pure + startx )

Ce n'est pas une erreur de copier-coller, il affiche bien la même chose mais avec des bouts manquants qui sont plus complets au fur et à mesure, ça n'a pas peut être pas d'importance par contre les lignes avec wayland sont toujours là.

et tu teste avec un reboot
l' idéal ce serait de désinstaller gdm3 et le purger mais j'ai peur que ça casse le bureau.
commence par regarder si avec lightdm c'est mieux
nota : pour savoir si tu a des paquets marqués comme "plus nécessaires" fait un apt-get upgrade . (mais surtout pas un "autoremove" si il te le propose )
ps: remet le "#" devant la ligne debug sur le fichier de conf de gdm3

Sinon oui mon systèmes est à jour.
reste maintenant a savoir si un "remove --purge gdm3" va casser gnome ou pas
et de le l'installer ensuite proprement (même manipulation que pour lightdm ) en espérant que ça répare le bug .
sinon rester avec lightdm si tout fonctionne bien . (le gestionnaire officiel de connexion de gnome est gdm3 , mais je ne connais pas les nuances (différences ) entre les deux ).

Ça marche, je vais y réfléchir mais je pense que je vais tenter de désinstaller puis de réinstaller gdm3.
