NVIDIA Optimus avec pilotes Nouveau

Bonjour,

je dispose d'un ordinateur portable qui possède deux cartes graphiques (une intégrée INTEL et une dédiée NVIDIA). Jusqu'à aujourd'hui je ne suis toujours servi que de la carte INTEL qui est suffisante pour travailler et pour regarder des films. Mais maintenant que j'ai un peu de temps j'aimerais faire tourner quelques jeux sur ma machine et pour cela j'ai besoin d'une plus grande puissance, il faut donc que j'utilise ma carte NVIDIA.

Voici la liste des cartes installées sur ma machine :

Je dispose donc d'une carte NVIDIA GeForce 920M qui est bien supporté par les pilotes Nouveau NV108 (GK208) d'après la page CodeNames du projet.

Initialement je pensais qu'il n'était pas possible de passer d'une carte à l'autre sans installer les pilotes propriétaires. J'ai donc d'abord installé ces drivers. J'ai pu alors faire tourner les jeux qui ne tournait pas sans ces pilotes sans avoir recours à des commandes comme `optirun`. J'imagine qu'avec ces drivers, le choix de la carte se fait de façon automatique.

Je suis ensuite tombé sur la page dédiée à Nvidia Optimus du Wiki de DF et j'ai appris qu'il était possible de switcher de carte graphique sans passer par les pilotes propriétaires. Excité par la nouvelle, j'ai directement désinstallé toute trace des pilotes non-free et j'ai suivi les étapes du tutoriel proposé par cet article. J'ai suivi toutes les étapes à la lettre mais malheureusement je n'arrive pas à faire fonctionner la commande `optirun`. Lorsque que j'essaye de lancer un processus sur ma carte graphique avec par exemple

optirun firefox


j'obtiens l'erreur

J'ai l'impression que le problème vient du fait que Bumblebee, le service qui gère la carte graphique dédiée, n'arrive pas à trouver le module Nouveau. Lorsque que je stope le service et que le relance avec la commande

bumblebeed -vv


j'obtiens l'erreur

dans la liste des retours.

Malgré tout ce qu'on peut lire sur internet sur le sujet je n'ai pas réussi à fixer le problème.

Ca ne va pas beaucoup t'aider à résoudre le problème (et si jamais tu trouves une solution, je suis intéressé !) mais je me suis un peu acharné (avec l'aide de anonyme merci.gif ) , il y a quelques mois pour essayer de faire tourner Bumblebee sur mon PC pour jouer (un alienware avec deux cartes dont une nvidia...) et je n'y suis pas arrivé....le post qui relate mes aventures...

Finalement, j'ai installé un dualboot avec un ubuntu et la méthode nvidia/ubuntu et là, ça tourne pour les jeux... sur le boot débian, je n'utilise pas la carte graphique nvidia ...

pas utile de passer par bumblebee avec le pilote nouveau.
ça cause bien souvent des problèmes comme tu rencontres.

mon vieux laptop gamer de 7 ans, a une nvidia récalcitrante, j'arrive à faire tourner des jeux avec nouveau sans bumblebee.
mais les performances sont pas aussi bonne que les pilotes proprio (à voir à quels jeux tu joues, et si ça demande des graphismes très élevés)

il faut aucun pilote proprio d'installé et pas de bumblebee.

si tu fais

sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch


tu devrais avoir cette réponse

0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:02.0
1:DIS: :DynOff:0000:01:00.0


IGD correspond à ta carte intégrée Intel (elle est sur Pwr donc en cours d'utilisation, ce qui est normal)
DIS correspond à ta carte dédiée donc la Nvidia (elle est sur DynOff donc éteinte mais prête à être utilisée en cas de besoin)

maintenant si tu fais

DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears


tu obtiens ceci comme réponse et tu vois appartaître une roue crantée qui tourne

explications, DRI_PRIME=1 fait appel à ta carte Nvidia donc elle s'active.
glxgears permet donc de tester ta carte, la 3d est opérationnelle, ta carte est reconnue, donc tout va bien.

Maintenant si tu veux lancer un jeu, ou une appli 3d gourmande sur ta nvidia, pas de soucis tu fais par exemple pour le jeu Super Tux Kart

DRI_PRIME=1 supertuxkart


et en théorie ça devrait fonctionner, pour vérifier et s'en assurer, il suffit de lancer à nouveau cette commande dans un terminal

sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch


et tu devrais cette fois-ci voir

0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:02.0
1:DIS: :DynPwr:0000:01:00.0


IGD donc carte Intel toujours en Pwr (normal elle fonctionnera toujours)
DIS donc carte Nvidia en DynPwr donc le jeu super tux kart tourne bien grâce à la puissance de la nvidia

après ça peut être chiant de taper les commandes à rallonge, du coup on peut se faire des alias, par exemple chez moi
quand je tape gpu dans le terminal ça fait appelle à    sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
et quand je tape nvidia, ça fait appelle à    DRI_PRIME=1

du coup pour démarrer les jeux sur la nvidia, j'ai juste à faire dans le terminal
nvidia lenomdujeu

alias gpu='sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch'
alias nvidia='DRI_PRIME=1'

Merci pour les informations. Passer par Ubuntu et les pilotes graphiques propriétaires est justement la solution que j'aimerais éviter. Je te tiens au courant si j'arrive à trouver une solution plus satisfaisante. Tu devrais jeter un œil à la solution proposée par melissa6969 !

Salut melissa6969 et merci pour ton aide, j'aime beaucoup la solution minimaliste que tu proposes.

Au début mon système ne possédait pas de dossier `vgaswitcheroo`. Pour fixer cela il a fallut que je désinstalle les paquets de Bumblebee comme tu l'as conseillé. Cependant dès le démarrage ma carte graphique est active et j'obtiens

cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch


0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:02.0
1:DIS: :DynPwr:0000:01:00.0
2:DIS-Audio: :DynPwr:0000:01:00.1



J'obtiens donc les mêmes performances avec et sans `DRI_PRIME=1` quand je lance `glxgears`. Ceci résout en partie mon problème, depuis le début je cherchais à obtenir de meilleures performances en switchant sur la carte graphique dédiée alors que j'étais déjà dessus. Reste à savoir comment je peux la désactiver au démarrage afin de ne pas consommer trop d'énergie quand je ne fais pas tourner des applications gourmandes...

Normalement la nvidia ne devrait pas être active.
Mais il se peut que t'ai le même soucis que ma nvidia.

Que donne le retour dans un terminal de
xrandr

Et la ligne dis-audio signifie que la nvidia est active car elle envoie du son via la hdmi.
T'as un écran branché en permanence sur ta hdmi.??

Après on essayera de désactiver manuellement ta nvidia pour voir si c'est possible.

Non je n'ai rien de branché sur mon port HDMI.
Voilà le retour (abrégé) de `xrandr` sur ma machine :

nota: il te faut le paquet "mesa-utils" installé

je suppose que tu utilise X comme serveur d'affichage
voir son log serait pas mal

C'est la première fois que je jette un coup d'œil à ces logs mais j'ai l'impression que les deux dernières lignes signifient que la carte `card1` (Nvidia donc) n'est pas utilisée.

moi j'en conclu que tu est actuellement sur le gpu intel , le premier retour
tu peu faire la même commande sur nvidia avec glxinfo -B

que tu a bien un gpu principal "intel skylake HD graphic 520"
un gpu auxilliaire 3D nvidia GK208BM (geforce 920M)

que tu utilise modeset (noyau)

le firmware "firmware-misc nonfree"  peut être utile (intel et nvidia)

pour le log de X , il me le faut en entier

normalement la carte nvidia n'est pas utilisé   roll

Huuuum c'est bizarre tout ça..
ta nvidia n'est pas hyper récente, donc elle devrait être parfaitement supportée.

avec ma nvidia j'ai toujours eu des soucis pour y faire fonctionner correctement.
avec les pilotes proprio j'avais des problèmes (impossibilité de mettre en veille, des crashs du serveur X, impossible d'éteindre la nvidia)
et avec le nouveau j'avais le même soucis que toi actuellement (mais à cause que la nvidia traitait un écran qui en faite n'existait pas, du coup elle restait allumée en permanence)

puis après j'ai eu des problèmes avec le nouveau kernel (vu que je suis sur Sid)
et en repassant sur le kernel de Stable (donc buster) tous les soucis ont disparus, et là ma nvidia fonctionne nickel.

dans ton retour de xrandr je pensais voir un écran virtuel qui en faite n'existe pas, mais non.
du coup je sais pas trop d'où peut venir ton problème.

sachant que le pilote nouveau est intégré au kernel, faudrait voir en changeant éventuellement de kernel.
chose pas facile vu que t'es sur Testing, t'es bloqué qu'au kernel 51.4.
tu pourrais faire comme moi passer sur celui de buster (le 4.19) mais c'est pas sans risque et j'ai pas envie d'être responsable d'une éventuelle casse big_smile

du coup le + sage qui me vient à l'esprit, c'est que tu devrais tester une debian buster en live usb (peu importe l'environnement)

ça permettra de voir si avec le kernel 4.19 ton problème persiste ou non.
et de pouvoir poser un diagnostic un peu + structuré.

d'ailleurs si on regarde bien, j'ai ces lignes, et cet écran VGA-1-2 est en réalité un écran imaginaire que ma nvidia traite, mais chose étonnante, c'est qu'en regardant le retour de xrandr, ce fameux écran est listé nul part, donc ça doit probablement se désactiver seul en fin de boot ou je ne sais quand.

Le paquet `firmware-misc-nonfree` est bien installé sur ma machine, sans lui j'ai des tonnes de warning au démarrage au sujet des deux GPUs. Voici mes logs complets :

Je viens de tester tout ça sur une installation Buster (kernal 4.19) et en effet cela fonctionne. Au démarrage la carte graphique est bien inactive d'après le fichier `switch` de `vga_swicthero` :

Et lorsque que je lance en parallèle une commande avec `DRI_PRIME=1` on peut lire dans ce fichier que la carte graphique a bien pris le relais :

À noter que je n'ai plus la troisième ligne  ̀2:DIS-Audio: :DynPwr:0000:01:00.1` que j'avais systématiquement sous mon installation précédente. Reste à faire un petit benchmark pour vérifier si j'obtiens bien un gain en performance. Cependant la raison pour laquelle cela ne fonctionnait pas sous le nouveau noyau de Testing reste un mystère.

Comme j'ai exactement le même soucis que toi, je pense que le pilote nouveau sur le kernel de testing est foireux.
C'est un peu le but de testing et de sid, de pas être aussi stable que debian stable.

Après c'est possible d'utiliser le kernel de stable sur une testing ou sid, c'est ce que je fais depuis pas mal de temps.
C'est risqué si tu utilises des firmwares propriétaire

C'est sûrement cela oui. Problème résolu en tout cas !

J'utilise pas mal de pilotes propriétaires malheureusement sur ce portable donc je vais éviter de trop bricoler dessus. Le kernel stable me convient.
